Remington College Nearing Completion of Columbia, South Carolina Campus

New campus will create dozens of jobs and improve the local workforce

COLUMBIA, SC, March 27, 2009 /Employment - Careers PR News/ -- Remington College is nearing completion of its new Columbia, South Carolina campus - an investment that will help stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and increasing the number of qualified job applicants through education and training.

The college has invested $2.6 million to turn a vacant Office Max store into a vibrant college campus for years to come. Remington College signed a 15-year lease for the building, located at 601 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.

"Our goal is to have a positive impact on this community," said Toby Hayes, President of the Remington College- Columbia Campus. "We're creating jobs on our campus and preparing students for the careers that they want so they are ready to become a part of the workforce in South Carolina."

The Columbia campus will employ an estimated 60 people in professional positions. Most employees will come from the local market. The timing couldn't be better, as South Carolina's unemployment rate jumped to 10.4% in January.

Remington College will also provide a boost to the local workforce by increasing the number of qualified job applicants in several fields.

On the Columbia campus, initial offerings will include diploma programs in Medical Insurance and Coding, Medical Assisting and Cosmetology - fields that are in demand now and have a solid outlook for the future.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks medical assistants to be among the fastest-growing occupations from 2006-2016, with excellent job prospects for qualified people. Similar growth is expected for jobs in medical insurance and coding. The need for cosmetologists is expected to grow by 14% by 2016.

"We want to become a partner in the Columbia community and help fill as many jobs as possible for years to come," said Hayes.
